WASHINGTON, D.C. — After U.S. customs reportedly blocked thousands of Porsche, Bentley, and Audi vehicles made by Volkswagen Group for containing parts made with forced labor in Xinjiang, Chairman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party wrote to Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume, urging Volkswagen to immediately comply with the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) within its global supply chain. Separately, the lawmakers called on Volkswagen to cease operations in Xinjiang, China where it maintains a factory with a joint venture backed by the Chinese government.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), Chairman of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party will lead a delegation of committee members to visit Taiwan from February 22-24, 2024 as part of a larger visit to the Indo-Pacific region.
Other members of the delegation include Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), Rep. John Moolenaar (R-MI), Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-SD), and Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA). The delegation will meet with senior Taiwan leaders and members of civil society to discuss U.S.-Taiwan relations, regional security, trade and investment, and other significant issues of mutual interest.

Chairman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), alongside Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) and Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN), sent a letter to the Departments of Treasury, Defense, and Commerce calling on them to investigate Chinese biotech company, WuXi AppTec, and its subsidiaries, citing WuXi AppTec’s alarming ties to the Chinese military (the People's Liberation Army or PLA), the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the CCP’s human rights abuses.
As a result, the lawmakers request that the agencies consider adding WuXi AppTec and its subsidiaries to the Department of Defense’s Chinese Military Companies List (1260H list), the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security Entity List, and the Department of Treasury’s Non-SDN Chinese Military-Industrial Complex Companies List.
DISCUSSING THE CHINA THREAT, AT HARVARD: Chairman Gallagher and Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi headlined a conversation at the Institute of Politics JFK Forum with moderators Graham Allison and Megan O'Sullivan, where they discussed "The China Threat and America's Future."
