More on Uyghur Genocide
Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) of the House Select Committee on China (SCC) and Chairman Chris Smith (R-NJ) of the Congressional Executive Commission on China (CECC) have sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin requesting a briefing on DHS’s implementation of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA).
“Congress enacted these laws to ensure that illegally traded goods, particularly those made with forced labor, do not enter U.S. commerce and do not make American consumers complicit in atrocities, including genocide, in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR),” the lawmakers write. “Strong enforcement protects human rights, supports American workers, and helps ensure that U.S. businesses are not undercut by illegal and unfair trade practices.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Chairman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party wrote to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, urging the State Department to increase diplomacy to ensure companies profiting off the CCP’s ongoing genocide in Xinjiang are not able to access global markets.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — After U.S. customs reportedly blocked thousands of Porsche, Bentley, and Audi vehicles made by Volkswagen Group for containing parts made with forced labor in Xinjiang, Chairman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party wrote to Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume, urging Volkswagen to immediately comply with the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) within its global supply chain. Separately, the lawmakers called on Volkswagen to cease operations in Xinjiang, China where it maintains a factory with a joint venture backed by the Chinese government.
