WASHINGTON DC — The University of Michigan has announced it is ending its joint institute with Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). The announcement follows a letter from Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party to U-M President Santa Ono that detailed the ties between SJTU and the Chinese Communist Party’s military modernization efforts.

WASHINGTON DC — Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI), Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), and Rep. Neal Dunn (R-FL) of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party wrote to Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, urging the Department to update its regulations to require a license prior to engaging with a Chinese military hospital for clinical trials.

 

In the summer of 2024, lawmakers sought information from the FDA regarding clinical trials conducted at Chinese military hospitals, FDA site visits in the People’s Republic of China, and clinical trials occurring in Xinjiang, where the CCP is committing a genocide against the Uyghur people.

WASHINGTON DC — This week, the Department of Defense (DoD) blacklisted dozens of Chinese companies operating in the U.S. that are a part of the People's Republic of China's military apparatus. Over the last two years, through investigations, reports, and legislation, the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party put a spotlight on over 70% of the Chinese companies on the latest iteration of the DoD blacklist.

The New York Times reported yesterday that the Biden Administration withheld funding to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The decision came in response to WADA’s refusal to investigate the Chinese Communist Party coverup of more than two dozen Chinese swimmers who tested positive for performance enhancement drugs one month before the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Over a dozen of these swimmers ultimately competed in the Olympic Games, winning several medals, including gold.

WASHINGTON DC — On January 2, Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) and Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party urged Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo to impose strict redlines in a soon to be published ‘Export Control Framework for AI Diffusion.’ This framework would establish the protocols in which high-end U.S. technology used in Artificial Intelligence can be exported abroad.

Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) and Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) released the following statement:

WASHINGTON DC — On January 2, the Department of Commerce issued a new rulemaking period to consider banning or imposing restrictions on drones made in China. The announcement follows the Select Committee's bipartisan inquiry in June, which called on the Commerce Department to utilize its authorities to protect U.S. national security from the surveillance threat posed these foreign adversary drones.
