Today, Select Committee on China Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) and Ranking Member Ro Khanna (D-CA) sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr urging them to take action against Futurewei Technologies, Inc. The company, which presents itself as an American company, is in fact controlled by Huawei, a Chinese military company repeatedly sanctioned for undermining U.S. national security.

Chairman John Moolenaar of the Select Committee on China made the following statement on reports that British authorities have arrested three people with connections to Parliament for spying for China:

Select Committee on China Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent highlighting the dangers of Chinese investment in critical U.S. industries. The letter reaffirms congressional support for President Trump’s America First Investment Policy and warns against granting China expanded market access as it weaponizes supply chains and subsidizes Chinese companies.

“Expanding market access or investment opportunities for Chinese firms in critical manufacturing sectors in the United States should be subject to heightened scrutiny... It would reward firms whose state-backed advantages have caused profound damage to American industry and workers,” says Moolenaar in the letter to Bessent.

Today, Select Committee on China Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI), House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast (R-FL), and House Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) sent a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio asking him to designate the Chinese Students and Scholars Association as a foreign mission of China’s government. This designation would require CSSA chapters to provide advance notice to the State Department of any meetings they have with local governments and universities. It would also require them to have prior approval from the department for public events in the U.S.
