Ford Actively Helping the Rise of China’s Auto Industry

July 23, 2026

Chairman John Moolenaar of the Select Committee on China made the following statement on Ford Motor Company’s newly-announced partnership with Geely, a Chinese automaker, to make Geely vehicles at a Ford facility in Spain:

“Ford is actively helping the Chinese Communist Party advance its ambitions to dominate global automotive supply chains and increase the world’s dependence on China. This partnership with Geely will further enable China’s decimation of auto markets in Europe as Chinese automakers set their sights on North America. Ford’s decision is incomprehensible as it seeks protection from Chinese automakers coming to the United States. As I have said before, Ford should work with our nation’s allies, not our adversaries.”

Background

In addition to its new partnership with Geely, Ford has an ongoing partnership with CATL, a Pentagon-designated Chinese military company linked to forced labor practices and genocide.
