When we talk about doing business in China, we use words like “private company” “law” “ownership” and “rights” as though they mean the same thing in the PRC as they do in America. The reality is these words have completely different meanings to the Chinese Communist Party.

Following three major CCP raids of American firms and the CCP's new ‘counterespionage law’, expert witnesses Piper Lounsbury, Shehzad Qazi, and Desmond Shum warned members of the inherent risk of doing business in China under the Chinese Communist Party's rule and questioned the American entities that uphold the CCP’s crony capitalism. |
WASHINGTON, DC – Chairman Mike Gallagher (R-WI), of the Select Committee on the CCP, and Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA) today introduced hallmark legislation to give the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) jurisdiction over all land purchases by foreign adversary entities and require mandatory CFIUS filing for foreign adversary entities making land purchases near sensitive sites, including all military facilities. This bill would mark the first change to CFIUS' mandate since 2018.

The Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party will hold a hearing on Thursday, July 13th, at 7:00 p.m., in Room 390 of the Canon House Office Building. The hearing is titled "Risky Business: Growing Peril for American Companies in China."
The witnesses will be:

• Mr. Shehzad Qazi, Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director, China Beige Book International
