Chairman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party and Rep. Joe Courtney (D-CT) today introduced the American Security Drone Act of 2023 alongside Select Committee Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) and Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA). The act would prohibit the federal government from purchasing drones manufactured in countries identified as national security threats, such as the People's Republic of China (PRC).
WASHINGTON, DC – As first reported by Reuters, Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and Chinese Communist Party, today sent a letter to Janet Yellen, Secretary of the Treasury, with recommendations for the implementation of the Biden Administration's August Executive Order on outbound American investment in China.

“The Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) latest decision to restrict exports of graphite, a key electric vehicle battery material, underscores the need to quickly diversify our supply chains away from the People's Republic of China and shore up collective resilience with our partners and allies. The CCP’s weaponization of trade over supply chain “chokepoints” illustrates the urgency to pass legislation that counters economic coercion and creates new tools to respond to the actions of the CCP.”
