Moolenaar: Trump Administration’s Sale of Arms Strengthens U.S.-Taiwan Partnership

December 18, 2025

The Trump Administration has announced that it plans to sell more than $10 billion of U.S. arms to Taiwan in the largest American arms sale to the island-nation. According to media reports, the sale includes 82 high-mobility artillery rocket systems, or HIMARS, and 420 Army Tactical Missile Systems, or ATACMS, 60 self-propelled howitzer systems, Javelin missiles, and other related military equipment.

“This sale is an outstanding move by the Trump administration to strengthen the partnership between the United States and Taiwan and deter a CCP invasion of the island. The people of Taiwan are constantly harassed by the Chinese Communist Party and Xi Jinping has ordered his military to be ready to take the island in 2027. Taiwan is investing in its own defense, and I hope these urgently needed items are swiftly delivered in order to strengthen deterrence,” said Select Committee on China Chairman John Moolenaar.

Last month, Taiwan announced a $40 billion funding plan to build an air defense system and other security initiatives.
