Moolenaar: CCP’s Latest Posturing on Jimmy Lai is an Illusion

Today, a Hong Kong court overturned fraud charges against Apple Daily publisher and Hong Kong pro-democracy leader Jimmy Lai. Lai still remains in prison on charges brought by the CCP under its national security law.

“Hong Kong’s decision to overturn its rigged guilty verdict against Jimmy Lai on the dubious fraud charges it brought against him is simply an illusion. The Chinese Communist Party wants the world to believe there is a fair and equal justice system in Hong Kong, but it’s all controlled by Beijing. Jimmy Lai is still sentenced to 20 years in prison under the CCP’s draconian national security law. This sentence will surely condemn him to death. I again call on China to release Jimmy Lai and allow him to return to his family. If Xi Jinping wants better relations with the United States, he will make it happen,” said Chairman John Moolenaar of the Select Committee on China.
